The Ukrainian won her first title in the new year
Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmila Kichenok commented on the victory in the doubles tournament WTA 500 in Australian Brisbane.
“First of all, I would like to thank everyone who came to the stands today and who supported us. It was incredible to play here in front of you. I would also like to congratulate our competitors.”
“Thank you to our team for making this possible, for their hard work every day. Of course, thanks to my partner, Elena, for being such an incredible tennis player as well as a person.”
“And today I would like to dedicate this victory of ours to the Ukrainian people, who struggle hard every day. Thank you very much!” said the Ukrainian.
Kichenok performed in pairs with Elena Ostapenko from Latvia. In the final, the pair defeated the tandem of Gret Minnen and Heather Watson (Belgium/Great Britain).
Lyudmila Kichenok became the first Ukrainian tennis player to win the trophy in 2024. For Kichenok and Ostapenko, this is the third joint title in their careers – previously the Ukrainian and Latvian won the WTA 250 tournament in Birmingham and the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati.
