Yeshchenko: “If men send you for beer, it does not mean that they do not respect you, on the contrary, they show: we believe in you, boy.”

Champion of Russia as part of the Moscow “Spartak” Andrey Eshchenko in an interview with , he said that previously it was not considered shameful to send young footballers out drinking beer, which is how they joined the team.

Yeshchenko began his professional career in 2003 at Zvezda Irkutsk. The 39-year-old footballer’s last club was Znamya Noginsk. As a member of Spartak, Yeshchenko became the champion of Russia and the winner of the Super Cup of the country, and as coach of the “red and whites” he won the Russian Cup.

— Because of a family tragedy, your childhood was very difficult. Has it really strengthened you in life?

“It definitely affected my character.”

— Your love for children also comes from there? I look at you surrounded by children and I understand that you are made for each other.

– Maybe. This happened today at the Spartak academy and in Kuban. And in general, I always tried to pass on experience to young people who came to my teams – they knew nothing about how to behave in the club. When I was a child in the Second League, the elders treated me the same way. And if men send you to get beer, that doesn’t mean they don’t respect you, on the contrary, they show it: we believe in you, man (laughs). That’s how they ended up in this gang: they ran to the store for beer, carried bags during training. There’s nothing wrong with that.

“It’s hard to imagine that among today’s generation.”

– This is what we’re talking about. That’s why we told the kids what to do and how to do it, forcing them to do the things necessary for the team. Some people couldn’t handle it psychologically, I won’t mention the names of the guys. Football is a team sport, there are almost no individual players.

If one in 10 listened to the older ones, that’s already good, especially since all these instructions came from the heart so that young people quickly join adult football. Our football is made of difficulties, and if everything goes well, you will not grow,” Eshchenko told .
