Nadal to miss Australian Open due to new injury

The legendary Spaniard was injured at a tournament in Brisbane

Legendary Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal admitted that he received an injury due to which he will not be able to play at the Australian Open 2024.

“During my last match in Brisbane I had a little muscle problem that made me worry. I had an MRI in Melbourne and it turned out that I had a microtear in the muscle, but not in the part where the previous injury was, which is good news.”

“Right now I’m not ready to fight at the tournament at the maximum level in five-set matches. I’m flying back to Spain to see a doctor, get some treatment and rest.”

“I’ve worked really hard throughout the year to get back on Tour and, as I’ve always said, my goal is to be at my best level in three months. While it’s sad news that I won’t be able to play in front of the amazing fans in Melbourne, overall it’s not a bad situation and we all remain positive about the season going ahead.”

“I really wanted to play here in Australia and I had the opportunity to play some matches which made me very happy and added positive emotions.”

Let us remember that on January 5, he was defeated by Jordan Thompson in the quarter finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane, failing to convert three match points in this match.

This tournament was 37-year-old Nadal’s first on Tour after a year-long break. Due to injury, he has not played since January 2023 and had surgery on his left hip earlier in the summer.

The Australian Open 2024 will be held from January 14 to 28, 2024.
