The head coach of the Ukrainian national football team spoke about the national team’s plans for this year.
The coaching staff of the Ukrainian national team did not have time to consider the newcomers to the national team in more detail. This was announced by the “blue-yellow” coach Sergei Rebrov. According to the specialist, in order to make certain conclusions about the candidates, it is necessary to conduct more friendly matches, which were almost absent among the Ukrainians last year. However, Rebrov promised that in 2024 new performers will appear in the Ukrainian national team.
“Personally, these accusations do not bother me. I understand in which direction we should move. I call a football player in the Ukrainian national team, based on how many players are in a certain position .”
If we call 4 players for a position, the players we don’t call ask me: “Why did you call me?” Now there is competition for every position. We have some positions where we invited three performers, for others – two. In our opinion, it is very important that they fit our game model.
I am sure that many players in Ukraine deserve to be called to the national team. We’re doing a lot of research, looking at a lot of factors and elements that are really important to our game model. People who talk about their players see potential in them. They are all potential candidates. We observe everything.
Unfortunately, during these six months we played only two friendly matches against Germany and not against the national team in Poland. Every game is decisive for us and we didn’t have a chance to check all the players on the radar of the Ukrainian national team. If we call 4-5 players, there is no way to attract them.
If you look at our calendar, we gather and have only 2-3 days for full preparation, we play for two days on the third and the team leaves. There’s no point in calling 30-35 players when you don’t have a training process.
I am sure that this year new players will appear in the national team and young people will get their chance. We see potential in many players, but, unfortunately, there is not enough time to test them in the camp of the Ukrainian national team.
