Father of Saudi Al-Hilal and Brazilian football player Neymar allocated funds that could help commute the sentence of his son’s former teammate Daniel Alves accused of rape, reports UOL, citing sources.
According to the publication, Alves turned to Neymar’s family for financial and legal help. Neymar’s father transferred 150,000 euros, which will be taken into account as “compensation for damage” and could help ease the player’s sentence if he is found guilty.
Additionally, in June last year, Alves appointed as his lawyer Gustavo Xisto, one of the representatives of Neymar Sr.’s company; the same day, the defender removed management of his assets from his ex-wife Dinora Santana. The law was approved by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Alves is accused of raping a girl in a Barcelona nightclub and has been in custody since January 20, 2023. The former Barcelona player faces 12 years in prison. The trial in this case will take place February 5-7, 2024.
In Europe, Alves played for Sevilla, Barcelona, Juventus Turin and Paris Saint-Germain. The footballer played 126 matches for the Brazilian national team, twice became the winner of the America’s Cup and the Confederations Cup and won Olympic gold.
