FIFA extended the disqualification of Overmars, who sent obscene photos to his colleagues, to the international level

International Football Federation (FIFA) extended the suspension of the former Dutch national team player Marc Overmars at the international level, reports the NRC, citing a FIFA press release.

Last November, Overmars was suspended from football for two years (the second 12 months suspended) for sending photos of his genitals to female colleagues while working at Ajax Amsterdam. He was banned from holding positions in Dutch football organizations, but at that time this had no direct consequences, since Overmars works in Belgium as technical director of Antwerp.

“FIFA can confirm that at the request of the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB), the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided to extend the sanctions imposed on Overmars to the global level,” FIFA said in a statement. .

FIFA has not said when exactly the suspension will take effect or whether an appeal is possible. A spokesperson for Overmars said they had “just been informed” of the disciplinary commission’s decision.

Overmars left his post as sporting director of Ajax in 2022. Overmars sent obscene photographs to female employees and players of the Amsterdam club. In March last year, the former player took a job in Antwerp.

As a player, Overmars won two bronze medals at the European Championships with the Dutch national team (2000, 2004).
