Denis Popov – about Akhmetov’s transfer to Zenit: “For him it is a plus, and for Krasnodar it is not a minus”

Former CSKA Moscow and Russian national team striker Denis Popov believes the transition is beneficial for all parties Ilzata Akhmetova from Krasnodar to Zenith.

On Tuesday, Akhmetov left Krasnodar for Zenit. The contract with the 26-year-old footballer runs until the end of the 2025/26 season and contains an option to extend for another year.

— Today, Zenit is a leading club. For Akhmetov, I think such a transition is a plus. But for Krasnodar this is not a disadvantage. He surely still has a clear understanding of the club’s future development. For Zenit, Akhmetov is a good, skilled and experienced footballer. Whether he gains a foothold in the first team there will depend on the extent to which Akhmetov confirms his ambitions at the top club. Whatever anyone says, Zenit are champions five times in a row, everything is more serious and more difficult there than in Krasnodar, Popov said according to Euro-Futbol.Ru.

Akhmetov has been playing for Krasnodar since the summer of 2022, after playing for CSKA and Rubin Kazan. This season, the midfielder has played 21 matches, scored three goals and provided two assists.

After 18 rounds, Zenit is in second place in the Russian Championship standings, losing two points to the Bulls. The RPL season will resume in March.
