Klopp’s successful substitutions turned the game around midway through the second half
Liverpool achieved a labor and strong-willed victory over Fulham in the first (home) semi-final match English League Cup – 2:1.
The Reds played with a suboptimal lineup – several important players were injured, Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo were called up to national teams, Alisson was rested due to cup rotation.
The guests played a quality first half and ended it with the lead. The ball was scored by the ageless Willian, a former Chelsea player (as well as Shakhtar Donetsk).
In the second half, the favorite improved qualitatively, and two substitutions from Klopp in the person of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo were decisive. The Uruguayan provided two assists in three minutes, and the Dutchman scored the winning goal. Curtis Jones equalized the score.
The Reds continued to dominate, but the score remained unchanged until the end of the match. The return meeting will take place in London on January 24.
Let us remind you that yesterday Chelsea unexpectedly lost away to Middlesbrough, representing the Championship, in another semi-final (0:1).
