Dorival Junior has been officially appointed as the new head coach of the Brazilian national team.

The ex-Sao Paulo coach replaced Diniz, who got off to a bad start with the Seleção in 2026 World Cup qualifying

Recently, the 61-year-old specialist left Sao Paulo, where he had worked since April last year. According to the club itself, the coach personally demanded his resignation because of the offer to lead the national team.

Dorival’s coaching career continues for the 22nd year. He won the Copa Libertadores with Flamengo (2022), became the champion of five states with different clubs, and won the Brazilian Cup three times (the last time with Sao Paulo in 2023).

Let us remember that last week it was reported that Junior would replace Fernando Diniz as head coach of the Brazilian national team. Under the latter’s leadership, Brazil began qualifying for the 2026 World Cup with two wins, then drew and suffered three defeats.

In the South American qualification for the 2026 World Cup, the Pentacampeons are in sixth position after six rounds.
