Shevchenko: I would do everything for peace to come to my country

Shevchenko is an ambassador of the UNITED24 platform

Former Ukrainian football player and ex-coach of the Ukrainian national team Andrey Shevchenko stated that he was ready to do everything possible to stop hostilities in Ukraine.

“I am Ukrainian, I would always remain behind my country. About two years ago, war began in Ukraine. And sport is one of the best platforms to promote peace. I would always remain for my country, because I am Ukrainian and would do everything for peace to come to my country.”

In September 2022, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky appointed Andrey Shevchenko as a freelance adviser. The corresponding decree was published on the website of the Office of the President.

Previously, Shevchenko became an ambassador of the UNITED24 platform, created on the initiative of the President of Ukraine. The project raises funds to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine, civilians, as well as to restore Ukraine from the consequences of Russian military aggression.

On December 12 last year, Andrei Shevchenko was officially nominated as a candidate for the post of UAF president. The ex-coach of the Ukrainian national team accepted the offer to run for a responsible post, taking time to prepare a program and select a team.

The UAF Executive Committee officially approved the holding of the Extraordinary Congress of the UAF on January 25, 2024. The meeting will take place in the Kiev House of Football, starting at 12:00. At the same time, the congress agenda was approved, one of the items of which is “On the election of the UAF President.”

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 688th day.
