Former Manchester United coach remains unemployed since November 2021

Former mentor Molde And Manchester United Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being considered for the position of new head coach Sweden national football team.

The Swedish Football Federation (SvFF) decided to turn to the candidacy of the 50-year-old Norwegian after the initial option with the coaching tandem of Olof Mellberg (Brommapojkarna) and Toni Gustafsson (Australia women’s national team) fell through. It is reported that negotiations with Mellberg were unsuccessful.

Contacts between the federation and Solskjaer took place back in December. The Norwegian is interested in returning to work after a break of more than two years. According to media reports, he had previously negotiated with Besiktas, but the Turkish grandee chose Fernando Santos.

Let us remind you that the previous coach of the Swedish national team, Janne Andersson, left his post on November 20 following the results of an unsuccessful selection for Euro 2024. The blue-and-yellows took third place in their qualifying group and for the first time in 28 years failed to qualify for the European Championship.

Solskjaer gave the Manchester United club 11 years as a player (1996 – 2007) and three as head coach (2018 – 2021). He was fired in November 2021 for unsatisfactory results. Before Manchester United, Ole Gunnar successfully coached Molde (2011 – 2013, 2015 – 2018), and also worked with Cardiff for a short time (2014).

The Swedish national team will play its next friendly match on March 21 against Portugal.
