Midfielder “Zenith” Ilzat Akhmetov announced to his intention to win the competition for a place in the main roster of the St. Petersburg team.
In January, the 26-year-old footballer left “Krasnodar” for the pleasure of moving to Zenit. His contract with the Bleu-Blanc-Bleu runs until the end of the 2025/26 season and contains an option to extend for an additional year.
— Do you consider attacking linemen or defensive players to be your competitors at Zenit?
— I can play as a defensive midfielder, but not all my qualities can be demonstrated there. That’s why I prefer to play on the attacking line. From what I understand, Sergei Bogdanovich Semak also sees me in the attack.
– At the same time, he loves station wagons. Do you like it?
— If you consider that I can play five positions, then yes (smile).
– The competition in the Zenit attack line promises to be very tough – after all, not only you came in winter, but also Pedro and Arthur, and there are also Cassierra and Sergeev.
— There is a good example of how Nuraly Alip won the competition. And there was Daler Kuzyaev. I think Andrei Mostovoy is playing very well for Zenit and brings a lot of upside. We have to take into account the experience of the guys and learn something from it in that regard.
— I know you know Nuraly Alip. Will he take over your patronage initially?
— I don’t think you’ll have to take care of me (smile). We will communicate with everyone.
– Training camp is early. Are you ready for them?
“I think it’s better when you join a team before training camp, and not during the championship season. This is an opportunity to get to know everyone better, better understand the requirements of the coaching staff and prepare for the games in all aspects. So I am looking forward to a successful training camp to get in optimal shape and win the competition.
— Have you ever been included in the team chat of Zenit players?

Akhmetov has played 21 matches this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists. Previously, he played for Rubin Kazan and CSKA Moscow. The midfielder has nine caps for the Russian national team.
