Ex-Spartak footballer Valery Kechinov in a conversation with , he suggested that in the new season, the red-whites would compete for a place in the top five, and “Zenith” become the RPL champion again.
– A number of experts are confident that Zenit will again take the top spot in the league in the new season.
“I completely agree with them. From what I saw – I mean Zenit’s matches with CSKA, with Spartak, Sochi – the Petersburgers are two or three heads stronger than these teams. Of course, I haven’t seen Dynamo, but given that some legionnaires left the team and it didn’t get much stronger, I think Dynamo won’t compete with Zenit. So the Semak team, in my opinion, is the clear favourite.
– What can Spartak expect in the new season?
– Well, I think I’ll get into the top five. I assume that the teams that were superior to Spartak during the season are now somewhat weaker. Sochi weakened, CSKA weakened, Dynamo too. Krasnodar? They play with their students. “Akhmat”? They were no stronger than Spartak in composition. Therefore, I think with a successful combination of circumstances, with luck, Spartak can compete for the top five.
Kechinov also shared his expectations for the RPL first round match, in which Spartak Grozny will meet Akhmat.
– It is difficult to make predictions now after this match (against Zenit). Especially in Grozny it’s still not easy to play. It is clear that the fans will come, and the opposing team, I think, missed the football. If they pull off a draw from there, I think it will be more or less normal for Spartak. Check? I think it’s 1:1, 2:2,” added Kechinov.
