The new agreement will run until the end of next season
Midfielder Taras Stepanenko will extend the contract with Miner. The new agreement will run until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The captain’s current contract runs until June 30. In December, Stepanenko said that during the winter break he would consider further options for continuing his career.
The 34-year-old midfielder has been playing for Shakhtar since 2010. Together with the Miners, the midfielder won nine Ukrainian championship titles and won the Ukrainian Cup seven times. This season, the captain played 18 matches for the club in all competitions, scoring one assist.
Shakhtar are in fourth place in the UPL, three points behind the leaders, but with two games in hand. The Miners will play Marseille in the 1/16 finals of the Europa League in February. The team is currently at training camp in Belek, Turkey.
