Marta made a stunning comeback in an almost three-hour fight
Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk reached the third round of singles in incredible style Australian Open 2024.
In the reporting round, the Ukrainian met on the court with the representative of Belgium, Elise Mertens. The meeting lasted two hours and 55 minutes.
The fate of the first set was decided thanks to Elise’s break in the 11th game (7:5). However, the Ukrainian managed to get revenge in the second game, without giving up a single serve to the Belgian (6:1).
In the decisive set, Mertens did not convert a match point on her opponent’s serve and the match went to a tiebreak, where the Ukrainian managed to turn the tide of the game (from 1:4 to 10:6) and converted her match point on the first attempt.
Kostyuk will play in the next round with the winner of the meeting between Maria Sakkari (Greece) and Elina Avanesyan. Let us remind you that Lesya Tsurenko will play in the third round of the Australian Open. Elina Svitolina and Dayana Yastremskaya also continue to perform at the tournament.
