The Zambians scored a miracle goal and managed to withstand the barrage of attacks from the favorite
DR Congo And Zambia failed to determine the winner in the first round match of Group F African Cup of Nations 2023 – 1:1.
The Congolese had a noticeable advantage throughout the match, but Zambia scored first. The goal was surprising: goalkeeper Lionel Mpazi jumped far from the penalty area, kicked into touch – and did not have time to return. Kings Kangwa from Red Star sent the ball into the empty net with a lobbed shot, and two defenders at once failed to prevent trouble.
The favorite came back quickly, taking advantage of a rare failure of the opponent’s defense – Cedric Bakambu’s cross (Galatasaray) was blocked by Yoan Wissa (Brentford).
Despite the obvious territorial and game advantage, DR Congo was unable to score again against Abraham Grant’s team. Silas from Stuttgart missed the last chance in stoppage time.
Morocco remained the leader of this group after the first round, beating Tanzania with a large score (3:0). In the second round, Morocco – DR Congo and Zambia – Tanzania will play. Both meetings will take place on January 21.
