Lawyer Hugues Vigier, representing the interests of the French footballer Karim Benzema said the Ballon d’Or winner is receiving threats due to a statement by French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
Previously, it became known that Benzema had filed a lawsuit against the French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, because the minister accused the footballer of having links with the Islamist organization “Muslim Brothers” (banned in the Federation of Russia).
“The minister’s comments have serious consequences. Karim Benzema receives threats. Saudi Arabia, where Benzema plays, considers the organization a terrorist organization. Karim receives hate messages,” said the footballer’s lawyer, Vigier’s words being quoted by RMCSport.
Benzema became a player for Saudi club Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023. In January, it was reported that the 36-year-old Frenchman had left Saudi Arabia and was subsequently suspended from training with the team .
