The French Ministry of Finance was searched as part of an investigation into tax evasion during the transfer of Neymar to PSG

The Paris Club may have received improper tax benefits through high-ranking officials

Earlier this week, police raided several tax administration departments French Ministry of Economy and Finance. Measures taken as part of an investigation into a suspicious regime tax benefitswhich individual officials provided to the club Paris Saint-Germain when transferring a Brazilian forward Neymar from Barcelona.

The case has been going on since 2017 – since then, an investigation has been underway into tax fraud that took place during the football player’s transfer.

High-ranking officials Jerome Fournel and Gerald Darmanin are under suspicion. The latter previously served as Minister of Internal Affairs and is currently Minister of Internal Affairs. On the PSG side, the persons involved in the investigation are Jean-Claude Blanc (former general director) and Jean-Martial Ribes.

If proven guilty, the defendants face serious punishment – up to millions in fines and several years in prison.

Neymar moved to the Parisian club from Barcelona in the summer of 2017 for 222 million euros. For PSG he scored 118 goals and provided 77 assists in 173 matches, and in 2023 he was sold to Saudi Al-Hilal for 90 million euros.

Paris Saint-Germain is the 11-time and current champion of France. The Parisians are currently leading Ligue 1 after 18 rounds, 8 points ahead of Nice.
