Kevin’s transfer is in the TOP 10 most expensive purchases of Ukrainian clubs and Shakhtar. The last time a player worth more than 10 million euros came to us was in the summer of 2021

We remember the transfer records of Ukraine and Shakhtar

On Friday, January 19th Miner officially announced the signing of the 21-year-old Brazilian winger Palmeiras Kevin. Transfer amount amounted to 12 million euros, the Donetsk club can pay several more millions in the form of bonuses. But even the initial payment makes the young Brazilian one of the most expensive football players ever to come to Ukraine. And the last Ukrainian club to pay more than $10 million for a player was also Shakhtar.

Based on the amount of compensation, then, according to Transfermarkt, Kevin’s transfer is in the TOP 10 incoming transfers in the history of Ukrainian football. It is noteworthy that they all belong to Shakhtar.

The Pitmen paid more than for the Palmeiras winger for the transfers of Bernand (25 million euros), Pedrinho (18 million euros), Taison (15.24 million), Tete, Fred, Castillo, Chigrinsky (15 million euros each), Willian and Matuzalem (14 million euros each). 12 million, like Kevin’s transfer, cost the transfers of Marlon and David Neres.

The miner holds three more records. Firstly, the 25 million euros paid by Atlético Mineiro for Bernard became a record purchase in the history of Ukrainian football. Secondly, the 15.24 million euros that Shakhtar paid to Metalist for Tyson became the largest amount for a transfer within Ukraine. Thirdly, the 15 million euros that Shakhtar paid to Barcelona for Dmitry Chygrynskyy is the largest amount that a Ukrainian club has paid for the purchase of a Ukrainian footballer.

If we talk about Kevin’s transfer, the last time a player worth more than 10 million euros came to Ukraine was in the summer of 2021. Then Shakhtar paid 18 million euros to Benfica for the transfer of Pedrinho, and gave 12 million euros to Sassuolo for the transfer of Marlon. Formally, the Miners completed another transfer worth more than 10 million euros in the winter, signing Ajax winger David Neres for 12 million euros, but the Brazilian midfielder, due to Russia’s large-scale military invasion of Ukraine, never played a single official match for Shakhtar.

“I am glad that we were able to complete this transfer. This is important for the team, the club, and Ukrainian football,” Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin commented on Kevin’s transfer. Based on the war that is going on on our land, as well as the figures given above, it is difficult to disagree with him.
