Alexander Kolodkin, first coach of Zenit defender Danila Krugovoi commented on the footballer’s transition to CSKA .
Krugovoy, 25, whose contract with St. Petersburg will expire in six months, will join the Moscow club as a free agent in the summer of 2024.
— Is the move to CSKA a step forward for Krugovoi?
– It’s difficult to say today, only time will show us the correctness of the choice. Danil probably consulted his agent, they spent a lot of time deciding on the move. Of course, the decision is controversial, because Krugovoi graduated from Zenit. I also worked a lot of time with him in the club system.
It seems to me that Krugovoy is disappointed with the little playing time he was given. After all, Danil is a candidate for the Russian national team. Despite the fact that Zenit has high-quality foreign players, first of all we have to think about the national team and our players. Probably, the idea of leaving crept into Krugovoy’s mind already at the stage of preparation for this season, when he had two excellent training camps, but others still entered the field. It depends on the coach, but a player’s life is very short. If Krugovoy continues to sit on the bench, in a year or two he will be of no use to anyone. Danil wants to play.
On the one hand, I am upset that such a young and high-quality player is leaving Zenit. After all, Krugovoy is the only student of the Zenit football school in the current team who has completed all the stages. It’s a shame that the club didn’t find any arguments to leave Krugovoi. On the other hand, CSKA is a new stage in his development as a player. There are examples of Oblyakov and Chalov, who receive a lot of playing time. And during this period, they have made greater progress in development than Krugovoy. Although Danil is at least not inferior to them in terms of level.
— Is it a mistake for Zenit to let Krugovoy go to a direct competitor in the fight for the championship?
— I don’t think CSKA is a direct competitor to Zenit. Krasnodar, CSKA and especially Spartak are ambitious clubs, but Zenit probably offers the best conditions. In my opinion, the biggest risk in this story is Krugovoy himself, who was offered an excellent contract. But Danil decided to expand. As for competitors, he allegedly moved to Krasnodar – the same thing. “Spartak” is not mentioned at all. And CSKA, in this case, is the most acceptable club, since Krugovoi has many friends in this team. But to sum up, it seems to me that the negotiation process was a failure,” the coach said according to Sport24.
