A goal and assist from 35-year-old Di Maria brought the Eagles three points
Benfica beat Boavista in the home match of the 18th round Portuguese Championship – 2:0.
In the first half, the Eagles made 11 shots at the opponent’s goal, but the home team failed to score a goal. After the break, Benfica still took the lead thanks to a well-aimed strike from Angel Di Maria.
In stoppage time, the Eagles scored again. Di Maria assisted 20-year-old Marcos Leonardo.
Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoly Trubin played the entire match for Benfica. This is the goalkeeper’s 24th match for the Portuguese team and his tenth clean sheet.
Benfica is in second place in the Portuguese championship, one point behind Sporting. Boavista remained in ninth position.
Benfica’s next match will take on Estoril in the semi-finals of the Portuguese League Cup on 24 January.
