Yastremskaya reached the 1/8 finals of the Australian Open 2024 for the first time in her career

The Ukrainian interrupted the outstanding winning streak of Emma Navarro from the top 30 in the world rankings

Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremskaya won a historic victory over the American Emma Navarro in the third round Australian Open 2024.

Each of the three sets of this confrontation brought polar results. First, the Ukrainian, having made two breaks in a row, did not miss her goal with the score 4:0. Then a similar scenario was repeated in favor of her rival. But Yastremskaya had more strength and skill left for the decisive game.

Let us note that our compatriot interrupted the successful streak of 22-year-old Navarro, debutant at AO-2024, who won 10 victories in a row this year.

Dayana managed to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time in her career. At the Grand Slam level, she repeated her best result from 2019 (Wimbledon).

Let us remind you that Yastremskaya started in the first round of qualifying and consecutively won six victories in 10 days – over Leja Boskovic (Croatia), Valentini Grammatikopoulou (Greece), Maya Joynt (Australia), world number seven Marketa Vondrousheva (Czech Republic), Victoria Gracheva (France) , and now – over the representative of the United States.

In the 1/8 finals, Dayana will fight the winner of the match between Latvian Jelena Ostapenko (No. 10 WTA), who defeated Martha Kostyuk in Adelaide earlier this year, and Victoria Azarenka (No. 22).
