Ben Brereton’s confessions hours before his Premier League debut: ‘When you’re a kid, playing here is your only dream’

Sheffield United play this Sunday against West Ham United and it is likely that the national striker will get minutes. He says playing in the top tier of British football is a desire he has had for a long time.

Ben Brereton is counting down the hours until Sheffield’s match with West Ham United arrives. This Sunday, the national striker could make his debut in the Premier League. “It was a very eventful week. “Going out and fixing some things, but it’s amazing to be on the pitch, the boys did it brilliantly,” said the Chilean about his first match with his new team, valid for the FA Cup.

The striker had a few weeks to adapt to the team and assures that knowing certain teammates beforehand made this process easier. “They give me time to adapt. I know friends here, but it’s been good. They were all brilliant, the staff and the players. It was easy to come here and settle in. “I’ve enjoyed every minute of it so far,” he said.

The dialogue took place with his team’s official channels. In this case, he took advantage of the promotion of his team’s supporters, whom he knows because he has already played in this stadium. “I played against here three times or something like that. I think there’s a great atmosphere, it’s always tough games against Sheffield United. “So I’m very excited to come to the home game and be a part of it,” he said.

Brereton is excited. He knows he can take part in this tour and can’t wait to step onto the pitch of English football’s elite. When he steps onto the playing field, he will realize a desire he has had since he was little. “It’s been incredible to be in a Premier League team. I look forward to the challenges. “When you’re a kid your only dream is to play in the Premier League one day, so it’s surprising,” he revealed.

He also spoke about his unsuccessful stay at Villarreal. , where he admits that he didn’t play the number of minutes he hoped for. “The summer I moved to Spain, I really enjoyed my time there, but unfortunately I couldn’t get the playing time I wanted,” he said on the matter.

A complicated team

Beyond the enthusiasm of the national striker, the truth is that Sheffield is going through a difficult moment which makes him see the option of remaining in the first division very far away. They are last in this edition of the Premier, they have only accumulated nine points so far this season, they are the worst attacker (15 converted) and, on top of that, the most defeated defense in the tournament (49 conceded), which has them with a goal difference of -34.

They began the campaign under the technical management of Paul Heckingbottom, but following the 5–0 defeat to Burnley on 2 December, was replaced by Chris Wilder who has already worked in the institution between 2016 and 2021. A few days ago, the coach already highlighted the attitude with which Brereton joined the team.

“He can play centrally in a pattern with attackers, as a sole attacker and also on the wings. It was very important that he added minutes. We are delighted that you chose us, we have been working on this agreement for a long time. “He wanted to come play with us,” he noted.
