The Ukrainian easily defeated the “neutral tennis player” Maria Timofeeva
Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk confidently reached the singles quarterfinals Australian Open 2024.
In the fourth round match, the Ukrainian met with Maria Timofeeva, who competed in a neutral status. Marta crushed her opponent, not losing a single serve during the match and allowing Timofeeva to win only three games.
Kostyuk reached the singles quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her professional career. Let us remember that Marta won the Australian Open in 2017 among juniors, but at the professional level she did not advance beyond the first round. Kostyuk also played in the doubles semifinals of the Australian Open 2023.
Two more Ukrainians also remain in the women’s singles draw at AO-2024. The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina will play with the Czech Linda Noskova, who sensationally knocked out the first racket of the world Iga Sventek from the tournament. Dayana Yastremskaya will face the 18th racket of the tournament, Victoria Azarenka.
Kostyuk beat Elina Avanesyan in a strong-willed manner in the previous round. In the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian will meet the fourth racket of the tournament, Coco Gauff.
