Pusic: We do in-depth training because we need to stay in good shape and avoid injuries

Head coach Shakhtar Marino Pusic spoke about the team’s preparation for the second part of the season.

“So far so good. We work very hard with the players, I’m pleased. The first part is always quite difficult, because you have to conduct in-depth classes. Then fatigue sets in, which is common. You also need to stay in good shape and avoid injuries, which is very important in my opinion. You also need to improve your physical condition, especially when it comes to playing conditions.”

“With the exception of one player, there were no other changes, so the squad is almost the same, only I had time to get to know them all better – not just individual players, but the team as a whole, using my philosophy. These training camps, where we conduct a lot of intensive training, during which the players learn the style of play and so on even better and faster, are extremely important. I see that the team is constantly improving, and progress is always part of the process, progress never ends. Every day you have to learn something new, improve yourself, and as I always tell my players, it’s not the player who makes the team, it’s the team that makes the player. This is the philosophy of my style of play.”

“We are a very ambitious club. It is pleasant and surprising to see how the club works in such difficult times for the country, showing everyone that, despite the circumstances, you always need to have love, enthusiasm, ambition, the desire to achieve something for a good result. And I’m happy that I feel this when I communicate with people in the club and outside it. It is very important. We just want our fans to be proud of us when we play in Europe, we want to represent the country as best as possible in European competitions. My coaching staff and I are committed to helping individual players become even better, which will benefit not only Shakhtar, but also Ukrainian football as a whole.”

The miner arrived for training camp in Turkey on January 14. The miners have planned several test matches. On Sunday, January 21, Shakhtar will play a sparring match with Ludogorets. Also one of the rivals will be Polish Lech (January 25).

Shakhtar took third place in Group H of the Champions League. Marino Pusic’s team will play in the 1/16 of the Europa League, where its opponent will be Marseille. In the Ukrainian Championship, the Miners are in fourth place, three points behind the leaders, but with two matches in hand.
