Fury: Deontay Wilder was my toughest opponent

The Gypsy King and Wilder met three times in the ring

WBC heavyweight belt holder Tyson Fury said that the most difficult opponent in his career was Deontay Wilder.

“My most formidable opponent was Deontay Wilder. I fought this guy three times and every second of these confrontations the curtain could close on me. Deontay Wilder has dynamite in his fists. If he hits, it doesn’t matter if it’s in the first or twelfth round, he’ll knock you out,” Fury said.

Wilder and Fury met in the ring three times. Their first fight in December 2018 ended in a draw, after which Tyson inflicted two defeats on Deontay – in February 2020 and October 2021.

Fury will fight Alexander Usik for the title of absolute heavyweight champion on February 17 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). Initially, the event was planned to be organized on December 23. However, it later became clear that the “Gypsy King” would not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with Francis Ngannou at the end of October.

In his last fight, Tyson Fury defeated Francis Ngannou via split decision. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in a fight with the former UFC champion.

Oleksandr Usyk fought his last fight on August 27 in Wroclaw, Poland. The Ukrainian knocked out Daniel Dubois in the 9th round and defended his championship titles.
