The Ivory Coast team suffered a major defeat against the Equatorial Guinea team in the third round match of the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Group A meeting, held in Abidjan, ended with a score of 4:0. Emilio Nsue scored twice, Pablo Ganet and Yannick Buila scored a goal each.
In a parallel quartet match, the Nigerian team defeated the Guinea-Bissau team – 1:0.
The teams of Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria, who scored seven points each, qualified for the 1/8 finals. The tournament hosts, the Ivorians (3 points), took third place in the group, but still have chances of qualifying for the playoffs; the Guinea-Bissau team (0) completed its participation in the tournament.
The top two teams from each group, plus the top four teams from those finishing third in their group, qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
