Lyudmila Kichenok: It’s an amazing feeling to reach the semi-finals here for the first time

The Ukrainian made it to the semi-finals of Grand Slam tournaments for the third time in her career and did it for the first time in Melbourne

Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmila Kichenok commented on her successful performance in tandem with the Latvian Elena Ostapenko in doubles Australian Open 2024in particular, reaching the semi-finals of the tournament.

“First of all, I want to thank the spectators who came to our match. There was a wonderful atmosphere. It’s an amazing feeling to reach the semi-finals here for the first time, for which I am also grateful to my partner. We’re playing great and I’m glad to be on the same side of the court as her.”

Let us remind you that Kichenok and Ostapenko reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open doubles for the first time in their careers. In two sets they beat Frenchmen Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic.

The Ukrainian-Latvian tandem reached the semi-final stage of the BSh series tournament for the third time. They previously managed this in 2022, in Paris and Wimbledon.

Lyudmila and Elena will compete for the right to play in their first doubles final of a major with the duo Gabriela Dabrowski/Erin Routliffe (Canada/New Zealand), seeded No. 4 in Melbourne.
