For the first time, Ukraine took two awards at once at the Youth Winter Olympics
Ukrainian skeleton racer Yaroslav Lavrenyuk brought Ukraine second medal at IV winter Youth Olympic Games 2024.
Following the results of two races, the 16-year-old athlete showed the second time, eventually losing a second to Emils Indrikson from Latvia. At the same time, the Ukrainian was 0.38 seconds ahead of the bronze medalist, Korean Yongsu Shin.
Another Ukrainian, Vladislav Klimenko, took 20th place in the skeleton competition.
For Lavrenyuk, this award is not the first in 2024. Earlier in January, he won a bronze medal at the World Junior Skeleton Championships in Lillehammer, Norway.
Lavrenyuk’s “silver” is the first medal won by Ukraine at the Youth Olympics in skeleton, and the fifth in history. For the first time at one winter Olympics, the Ukrainian youth team managed to win more than one award.
Let us remind you that earlier biathlete Polina Putsko won bronze in the women’s sprint.
The Winter Youth Olympic Games will take place in Gangwon, South Korea, from January 19 to February 2, 2024. Ukraine is represented at the Games by 44 athletes – 24 boys and 20 girls. Please note that representatives of Russia and Belarus are not allowed to attend the Games.
