Mauritania reached the knockout stages of the African Cup of Nations for the first time in history
On January 23, the third round matches took place in Group D of the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
Algeria national team lost sensationally Mauritania, conceding a goal at the end of the first half – 0:1. Angola won the match with Burkina Faso – 2:0. The second goal of the tournament was scored by 34-year-old Mabululu.
Angola scored seven points and finished first in the group. The Burkina Faso team (4 points) is in second position.
Mauritania (3 points) qualified for the CAN playoffs for the first time in history, becoming one of the top four teams in third place ahead of schedule.
Algeria did not win a single match in the group stage and closed the standings of Group D with 2 points. Let us recall that not so long ago (in 2019) the Desert Foxes won the CAN.
