Football player “Orenburg” Jordi Thompson who was previously under house arrest in Chile due to accusations of domestic violence, said in an interview with that he now had to prove that everything could be fixed in this life.
Orenburg announced Thompson’s transfer in late January. The club leased the Chilean midfielder from Colo-Colo with the right to purchase.
— Defending your team is a great feeling. Before I think about joining the team, I have to play well for the club. Again, the national team coach should always keep an eye on you. And there is one more point. I think it will be difficult for me to join the Chilean national team because of the problems I encountered last year. It seems to me that I must first improve personally, get back on the right path.
— Do you really think that the non-sporting part of your life can outweigh your football achievements?
– Maybe. In fact, I try to show the positive side of myself. It is clear that there are negative comments made to me, during matches I was booed from the stands. But I try not to pay attention to it, I concentrate on football.
— How did you overcome all the difficulties in your personal life? Did you believe everything would be okay in the end?
— Yes, the year turned out to be very difficult. There were ups and downs. The first is that I started playing regularly in my team’s starting XI. The second is what happened to me outside of football. Now I have to show that I am actually a good person, that everything can be fixed in this life,” Thompson told .
Thompson has been under house arrest in his home country since early November 2023 due to allegations of domestic violence and gender-based harassment against his ex-girlfriend. To lift the arrest, the court required a bail of 100 million pesos (approximately 110 thousand dollars). In January, the court allowed an apartment belonging to a representative of the 19-year-old footballer to be accepted as collateral and allowed him to leave Chile.
