The team will train in proper conditions, and in the future it is planned to participate in competitions, including international ones.
Miner announced the creation of a new team for amputee players. It will include Ukrainian military personnelwho were injured during hostilities resulting in limb amputation.
At the initial stage, a team of 20 players and a coach will be formed. She will be provided with conditions for training in Kyiv and the region. In the future, the team is expected to participate in various competitions, including international ones.
General Director of the Donetsk club Sergey Palkin on this occasion he stated:
“Ukrainian soldiers, who gave their health defending the country from the enemy, today, more than anyone else, need the support of society. According to various estimates, now in Ukraine about 50 thousand military personnel have amputations due to wounds. Shakhtar is the first UPL club to create a team for military personnel with amputations. Our task is to create all the conditions so that these people can integrate and return, as far as possible, to an active life. When organizing a new team, we will rely on the international practice of adaptive football.”
Let us recall that in October last year the premiere competition of the European Football Federation Nations League took place among teams formed from players with amputations. It was attended by the Ukrainian national team, declared in division C. It included four military personnel, active and commissioned, who were undergoing rehabilitation after receiving serious injuries as a result of the Russian full-scale military invasion.
At that tournament, our team won victories over Greece (2:1) and Belgium (1:0), and also drew 0:0 with Georgia and Israel. The blue-and-yellows eventually lost to the Georgians on goal difference and were unable to rise to division B. But the Ukrainian team qualified for the upcoming European Championship. In addition, the Ukrainian team received the Fair Play award.
Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has continued for the 712th day.
