Shevchenko discussed with Ceferin steps to prevent Russian teams from returning to international competitions

UAF President visited the UEFA Congress

Chapter Ukrainian Football Association Andrey Shevchenko met with the president UEFA Aleksander Ceferin during the UEFA Congress.

“Met with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin to discuss the next steps of the new UAF leadership and preventing the return of Russian teams to international competitions,” Shevchenko wrote.

Earlier it was reported that the UAF president met at the UEFA Congress with the heads of football associations in Germany and Italy. Shevchenko discussed the development of a coach training system based on the best European practices and the organization of summer football camps for Ukrainian children.

In September 2023, the UEFA President announced that Russian football clubs and national teams of the Russian Federation will be under a UEFA ban until the end of hostilities in Ukraine.

Later, the governing body of European football decided to allow the Russian U-17 national teams (boys and girls) to participate in international competitions during the 2023/24 season, leaving the disqualification of the remaining Russian national teams in force. This move caused public outrage and a split within the UEFA Executive Committee. As a result, Ceferin and his players listened to the voice of reason and changed their minds about allowing Russian youth teams to participate in official tournaments under their auspices.

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has continued for the 714th day.
