Former Russian national footballer Vladimir Bystrov on commented on the situation with the Moscow strikerSpartak » Quincy Promes .
An Amsterdam court on Wednesday found Promes guilty of drug trafficking and sentenced him to six years in prison. The footballer was not present at the meeting, he is with the team at a training camp in the United Arab Emirates. Promes’ defense has informed the club of its intention to appeal the court’s verdict. Dutch prosecutors also seized nine properties belonging to Promes and placed him on the international wanted list.
“It is surprising that the case has been ongoing since 2020 and the verdict is only now being delivered. In other words, it took four years to find someone guilty. And smuggled. It’s alarming. I don’t think Quincy is an idiot and actually bought something from someone, from dealers, and passed it on. To me, this is kind of absurd. If he is in the United Arab Emirates, he could now also be arrested there and transferred to the Netherlands. (If) Our politicians are interested in this situation and grant political asylum – that’s a question. If all this falls on the shoulders of Spartak, it will be difficult to resolve this problem. If he is arrested, the contract will be canceled,” Bystrov said on the air of the show “Everyone for the match!” on the channel.
Promes is 32 years old, his contract with Spartak runs until June 30 this year. This season, the WORLD RPL footballer played 17 matches, scored six goals and made six assists.
