Lucescu: Fenerbahce are a great team, which has also strengthened in the summer

The head coach of Dynamo Kyiv commented on the upcoming Champions League qualifying match.

Dynamo are well prepared for facing Fenerbahce in Champions League qualifier. This was announced at the pre-match press conference of Kyiv club coach Mircea Lucescu. The specialist also praised the opponent, citing head coach Jorge Jesus and the team’s newcomers. In addition, Lucescu explained why the White-Blues chose Polish Lodz as their home arena.

“We decided to play in Poland because we know we have the support of the fans here. There are a lot of Ukrainians here, so we guarantee a good atmosphere during the home match, which will help us try to get a good result.

It is not correct to say that I played against Jorge Jesus, the Dinamo team played against the Benfica team. As for Jesus, I can say he was a very qualified, experienced specialist. I like the way he manages teams, I like the style of playing his teams. I know he knows me too. We prepared for these matches based on his team’s performance, and also based on last year’s confrontation with his Benfica.

Last season, Benfica showed good results under the leadership of Jesus, they twice beat Barcelona. I note that Fenerbahce is also a very good team, having also strengthened this summer with experienced players. The oldest of the newcomers to Fenerbahce is 29-30 years old, they have played in the top championships in Europe. For example, Joshua King, Lincoln, Bruma, William Arao.

But we also have a great team that has been playing together for almost two years. I hope my players will forget about the horrible things happening in Ukraine during the game and focus on the upcoming game.

This game is very important not only for us, not only for the fans of Dynamo, but for the people of Ukraine, who expect success from our team. At the same time, I understand that this match is also important for Fenerbahce, as the club has invested heavily in the team and expects it to progress to the group stage.

We didn’t have a permanent base, on the contrary – we traveled all over Europe as part of a charity tour. This is very important, because in this way we can bring together refugees from Ukraine so that they can feel they are part of the family on the stands of the stadiums. I can only thank my players who played for Ukraine.

We also tried to give football players equal game training in these matches, so that they get to the games with Fenerbahce in good condition. It wasn’t easy, as many of our boys played on national teams until June 15th. They needed a break, then they came with us for a training camp. We needed three fights to bring the boys to a common denominator, and two were left for purposeful preparation. I think so far the team is in good shape, “Dynamo’s official website quoted Lucescu.
