Jean-Louis Gasse will replace Gattuso as Marseille coach

The experienced Frenchman was fired from his position as coach of the Ivory Coast national team during CAS 2024

Marseilles decided on a successor Gennaro Gattuso as the team’s head coach. It will be an experienced Frenchman Jean-Louis Gasset.

The club is working out the details of the contract with the new coach, which will be valid until the end of the current season. The appointment is expected to take place soon.

Let us remind you that today Marseille fired Gattuso for unsatisfactory results. The Provencal club won only one match in 2024, and now the Provencals are on a streak of seven matches in a row without a win in all tournaments. The last straw was Olimpik’s defeat from Brest in the 22nd round of League 1 (0:1).

Gasse is 70 years old. As a head coach, he worked with French clubs Montpellier, Caen, Istres, Saint-Etienne and Bordeaux. Since 2022, he has led the Ivory Coast national team.

Last month, the experienced coach was sacked as coach of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations host team. Under him, the Elephants took third place in Group A and barely qualified for the playoffs. Gasse was replaced by his assistant, 40-year-old Emers Fahe, and Ivory Coast welcomed its fourth African title.

Let us remind you that Marseille is Shakhtar Donetsk’s opponent in the Europa League playoffs. In the first match of the 1/16 finals of the tournament, the teams tied with a score of 2:2. The return match will take place in France on February 22.
