The blue-and-yellows began the selection for the 2025 Basketball Championship with two misfires
Mentor of the Ukrainian men’s basketball team Vitaly Stepanovsky summed up the results of the first two qualifying matches for EuroBasket 2025.
“I won’t say anything new – everyone has learned to play basketball. There is no such thing as any country that is not a basketball player, everyone has already learned to play and if you are not tuned in to the game somewhere, everyone can beat you. And the results that we saw in this window confirm this once again.”
“First of all, I don’t want to think about one victory. The guys showed and now understand once again that they can play with everyone – the first half against Slovenia only confirms this. We must expect to win every match, and we will fight for victory in every match.”
“We will play Slovenia at home, we have two matches against Israel, with whom we played and won before the pre-qualification of the Olympics. And, of course, we will do everything possible to beat Portugal by more than 2 points. But I won’t think only about this game, we will do everything to win all four matches.”
With two defeats, Ukraine closes the standings of Group A. Let us recall that in the first round the blue-yellows lost away to Slovenia (73:87), after which they dramatically lost to Portugal (77:79).
To qualify for the EuroBasket finals, the Ukrainian national team must take one of the first three places in the group. Stepanovsky’s team will hold the next two qualifying matches in November 2024 – the blue-yellows will fight Israel twice.
