Mentor Gornyakov hopes to take his team “to a new level” in the future
Head coach Shakhtar Marino Pusic commented on his team’s brilliant victory over Krivbass (5:2) in the central match of the 19th round Ukrainian Premier League.
“We played very well and deserved to win. We played well both before and after the removal from Krivbass. We controlled the game and made good progress in attack.”
“The second goal was very good because we immediately reacted to the goal scored by the opponents, who played very strongly. We had our moments. We started the second half very well again.”
“As for the removal of the Krivbass player, it was a clear red card. We responded perfectly. We should score more if we play this well.”
“My team deserved these 3 points, we move on to the next game. We showed a lot of good things. We played well in terrible conditions, I’m talking about air raid warnings and the state of the field. At the end of the match we could have played better and scored more goals.”
“Each game has its own story and energy. Today we deservedly won. We need to continue to work very hard to achieve many details. We know that we have a young team. We have to take this team to the next level.”
“Taras Stepanenko regrets that he was injured. He wanted to help the team in the match with Marseille, but was injured again. For his safety, he didn’t play today.”
Let us remind you that at the beginning of the second half of the match, with the score 2:1 in favor of the Miners, Krivbass midfielder Hrvoje Ilic was sent off from the field. The referee of the match, Nikolai Balakin, first showed the player a yellow card, but after watching the video replay, he changed his decision and sent the Croatian off the field for a flagrant foul.
After that, Pusic’s team defeated the opponent on counterattacks and brought the matter to defeat.
Shakhtar scored 35 points and is in third place in the UPL standings. The orange-and-blacks are three points behind the leading SC Dnepr-1, while having two matches in hand. In the next round, Shakhtar will host Kolos on March 6.
