The Munich giants hope to win the race for a manager against Liverpool
Bavaria entered into negotiations with the head coach Bayer Xabi Alonso. The Munich club hopes to lure the coach to them next summer.
Previously, the German champion had already announced his separation from his current coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. Alonso, 42, is considered Bayern’s top target for the post but will face tough competition from Liverpool, who will leave Jurgen Klopp in the summer. The English club entered into a negotiation process with its former footballer a month ago (Xabi also played for Bayern).
It is expected that Bayern will have to pay between 15 and 25 million euros for the transfer of Alonso. The fixed clause of 15 million, according to the Spaniard’s contract with Bayer, will be available only from the summer of 2025.
There is, however, a possibility that Alonso will reject all offers and remain at Leverkusen for another season.
The former outstanding midfielder began his independent coaching career at Bayer Leverkusen in October 2022. This season, the Pharmacists under the leadership of Alonso have not yet suffered a single defeat and are leading in the Bundesliga.
Bayern are currently second in the Bundesliga, ten points behind Bayer Leverkusen with 10 rounds to go. The Munich team also continues to compete in the Champions League: in the first match of the 1/8 finals, Bayern lost away to Lazio (0:1). The return match will take place today, starting at 22:00.
