Let us remind you that Shakhtar Donetsk recently announced the creation of a new team for players with amputations.
In October 2023, the premiere competition of the European Football Federation Nations League took place among teams formed from players with amputations. It was attended by the Ukrainian team, entered in division C. It included four military personnel who were undergoing rehabilitation after receiving serious injuries as a result of the Russian full-scale military invasion.
At that tournament, our team won victories over Greece (2:1) and Belgium (1:0), and also drew 0:0 with Georgia and Israel. The blue-and-yellows eventually lost to the Georgians on goal difference and were unable to rise to Division B. But Ukraine qualified for the upcoming European Championship. In addition, the Ukrainian team received the Fair Play award.
Currently, the men’s team is preparing for the summer Euro 2024, which will take place in France. At the same time, the Ukrainian women’s team is being formed.
