Lyubenovich: Today Zarya looked better and won a natural victory

The mentor took responsibility for the defeat

Head coach Minaya Zeljko Ljubenovic commented on the defeat from Zari (0:2) in the 20th round match Ukrainian Premier League.

“Lugansk Zarya really remains in my heart. He played for the team for six years and worked for another two. Today Zarya looked better and won a natural victory. Little came of what we agreed on. You could say that I lost the game and I take responsibility.”

“All Zarya players played at a very high level. Guerrero is a quality footballer, and that also applies to Antyukh. Everyone saw what they did on the field and understand their contribution to the victory.”

“Petko was missed, he is our main football player. But Semotyuk replaced him well, although he had to be replaced due to the yellow card he received. First, the referee showed red and it’s good that there is a BAA system that corrected the referee’s mistake.”

42-year-old Lyubenovich played for many years in Ukraine for Krivbass, Tavria, and Alexandria. Zara spent six years as a football player (2012 – 2018). Having hung up his boots, Zeljko remained in the Lugansk club – first as a scout, then as an assistant coach of the U-19 team. Subsequently, he worked as an assistant coach in the clubs Zelezničar (Pancevo) and Radnicki (Belgrade).

In Minaj, the Serb received his first independent coaching experience. He led the Uzhgorod team in November 2023. Lyubenovich replaced Vladimir Sharan in this position. Under his leadership, the Transcarpathian team scored four points in two matches in the spring part of the Ukrainian championship, and following the results of the 19th round, the mentor was recognized as the best coach of the UPL.

With 10 points, Minaj closes the UPL standings. In the next round, Lyubenovich’s team will play away against Shakhtar on March 12.
