Ponomarev: There is no goal to qualify for European competition this season

Head coach Rukha noted the concentration of his players in the match against a strong opponent

Head coach Rukha Vitaly Ponomarev commented on the away victory over SK Dnepr-1 and spoke about the tasks for the season.

“Today Rukh played against a serious opponent with quality players, and it’s not easy to face such a strong team. Dnipro can take advantage of any mistake and turn the game in their favor, so the players had to act very concentrated.”

“Unfortunately, now is the time when matches are interrupted due to air raids. We are grateful to the Ukrainian Armed Forces that we have the opportunity to play football and hold the championship. However, if we evaluate the sports component specifically, it’s a shame that you have to play for 4-5 hours, this is not very good. Of course, all teams are on equal terms and this affects both teams, but the players have to warm up 3-4 times and then play.”

“We don’t have a goal to qualify for European competition this season. Our task is to create a combat-ready and competitive team that will play at a good level and, over time, will compete for the giants of Ukrainian football. If we now manage to reach the European Cup, we will be only happy, but we should not put pressure on the guys – the club soberly assesses the situation and does not demand this yet.”

Let us remind you that Rukh managed to take three points from Dnepr following the results of the match of the 20th round of the UPL (1:0), which was interrupted three times due to an air raid. The Lviv team took the lead in the opening of the match and managed to defend their advantage.

Rukh is in fifth place with 33 points. In the next round, Ponomarev’s team will play on March 16 against Metalist 1925.
