Vishniac: Shakhtar strengthened the game with substitutions, raised the tempo, and at some point we couldn’t stand it

Kolos’ coach is pleased with the first half and the team’s dedication

Head coach Kolosa Yaroslav Vishnyak commented on the match against Shakhtar (2:3) from the 20th round Ukrainian Premier League.

“We wanted to grab credits here. For various reasons we were unable to do this. But overall, I’m pleased with the guys’ attitude to the game, dedication, desire to win, as well as the fight for results.”

“First of all, I believe in my team before they go on the field, during the game, and after the match ends I also believe in them. I didn’t believe in them when we scored a goal. I believed that we could do this, and I am sure that we structured our game correctly – we closed the middle of the field for Shakhtar. I can’t say they didn’t have their moments. There were moments, but we gave them trouble, and I saw that it was hard for them. And we, in turn, could still launch quite good counterattacks. We could have played better if the attacking players supported these opportunities. When Shakhtar left large areas behind our backs, we could still carry out one or two striking attacks and increase the score.”

“As for the second half, Shakhtar restructured and strengthened the game with substitutions. And we can’t say that we have slowed down, it’s Shakhtar who have significantly improved and raised their pace. And somewhere at some point we couldn’t stand it. And you need to work on this too. After we conceded the goals, we tried to rebuild, go higher, and released two more strikers. And I saw that the guys wanted to win back, they wanted to snatch victory. But Shakhtar showed that playing open football with them is very difficult. When free zones appeared, they were already running out a lot on counterattacks. And the game was no longer under our control. And that tells us what we need to work on. Well, plus the personnel situation – we were not in the optimal composition for various reasons.”

Let us remind you that Kolos managed to beat the champion in the first half thanks to a goal from Oleg Ilyin. However, for the second half, Marino Pusic brought in fresh players, and two of them – foreign players Kevin and Lassina Traore – eventually made the game.

Vishniac’s team is in eighth place with 24 points after 19 matches played. In the next round, Kolos will play away against Krivbass.
