Athletistic / Football. Barcelona head coach Xavi has responded to comments from Mallorca coach Javier Aguirre, who said Blaugrana winger Lamin Yamal reminded him of Catalan club legend Lionel Messi. The Mexican said these words after the match between the teams on the 28th day of La Liga, in which Yamal scored the only goal.
“I understand such comparisons, but I think we should not pit these players against each other. Any footballer will lose compared to Messi. If we are talking about Leo, then we are talking about the best player in the history of football. He cannot be in relation to just anyone,” as quoted by Xavi Managing Barca.
Lamin Yamal graduated from Barcelona. He made his debut for the Catalan superclub’s main team in April 2023. This season, the young Spaniard has made 37 appearances for the Blaugrana in all competitions and has scored six goals and five assists. The Transfermarkt portal estimates his market value at 60 million euros.
Lionel Messi is also a Barcelona graduate. He played for the club’s main team from 2004 to 2021. The Argentine currently plays in the United States for Inter Miami.
