Another victory for the Pharmacists was brought by goals from Tella and Wirtz
Bayer won a convincing victory over Wolfsburg in the home match of the 25th round of the German Bundesliga – 2:0.
The hosts’ task was made much easier by Wolves defender Moritz Jenz, who managed to receive two yellow cards by the 28th minute.
Xabi Alonso’s team soon realized their numerical superiority. Nathan Tella scored from point-blank range with a header from Alejandro Grimaldo’s perfect cross. For the 28-year-old Spaniard, this is already the 23rd productive action of the season – he managed to score 11 goals and 12 assists.
The pharmacists confidently controlled the course of the game, not allowing anything to the opponent. The hosts managed to bury the intrigue only at the end of the match – after Ezequiel Palacios’s throw, Florian Wirtz hit the near corner and became the third Bayer player (after Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong) to score at least 10 goals and assists this season.
Bayer is once again 10 points clear of Bayern. There are nine rounds left in the Bundesliga until the end of the season. Next week, Alonso’s team will first play against Karabakh in the return match of the 1/8 finals of the Europa League, and then go to visit Freiburg.
Wolfsburg, who have not won since mid-December, are in 13th place. On March 16, the team will host Augsburg.
