The option of a tournament with teams from different continents is also being considered.
National Basketball Association (NBA) plans to create its own league in Europe.
Over the past few years, the Association has been cooperating with FIBA and the Euroleague, organizing matches in Europe. However, NBA executives are dissatisfied with the financial results of the European project and are looking for new options.
One of them is a separate league in Europe, which will be organized in cooperation with FIBA and will become a competitor to the Euroleague. The second option is to create a tournament with the participation of teams from different continents.
It is projected that the basketball business in Europe and the Middle East could bring the NBA up to three billion dollars a year. The current income of the Association from European projects is several hundred million dollars, which is an insignificant result in the overall business (13 billion).
The NBA plays games in Europe as part of the Global Games series. In the last such match, Cleveland defeated Brooklyn (111:102) on January 11 in Paris.
