Today Minaj and his mentor will face a harsh test in the form of a match against Shakhtar
Head coach Minaya Zeljko Ljubenovic spoke about his team’s forced transition to a new playing formation and the reasons that prompted him to do so.
“My favorite formation is 4-2-3-1, and I did everything to select players for this formation. However, unfortunately, we could not find any wingers. We don’t have any wingers in the team at all. So I had to change the formation to 3-5-2. As a coach, I was taught that you must choose a formation for the players. I can’t play 4-2-3-1 if I don’t have players for this formation. That’s why I switched to a 3-5-2 formation because of the players that I have and that we have found.
“In particular, Korablin plays more in the forward position. In my first game with Krivbass, he played a winger, based on the fact that we had Tverdokhlib. Vakula might be suitable for the role of a winger, but I place him more in the middle, under the striker. I don’t have a second winger. For a 4-2-3-1 I should have four wingers, not two. Therefore, it was easier for me to choose the 3-5-2″ scheme.
“I was worried because I had never played according to this scheme. However, from the first matches I saw that the players were better at this scheme. I played both one and the other scheme for the championship. 3-5-2 left.”
42-year-old Lyubenovich took over the leadership of Minaj in November 2023, gaining his first independent experience in his coaching career. The Serbian specialist replaced Vladimir Sharan in this position. Under his leadership, the Transcarpathian team scored four points in three matches in the spring part of the Ukrainian championship, and following the results of the 19th round, the mentor was recognized as the best coach of the UPL.
Under Lyubenovich, Minaj won the first victory of the season – over Metalist 1925 (2:0) on March 2. With 10 points, the Transcarpathian team closes the standings. Today Minaj will play away against the champion and leader Shakhtar. The meeting starts at 18:00.
