A group of criminals entered the apartment of Ubaldo Matildo Fillol, world monarch of Albiceleste in 1978, and stole his iconic souvenir from the event held in his country.
Ubaldo Fillol is having a bad time. The historic goalkeeper of the Argentine national team was the victim of a theft at his home. According to the former archer’s account, a group of criminals entered his car, took the keys to his house, located in the Villa del Parque sector, and then stole some belongings from the apartment. Among the stolen items was the medal he received for being world champion in 1978.
According to what the Argentine newspaper Clarín reported, the sources in the file indicated that: “He found the place in disorder with objects missing inside,” detailed the sources in the file. After the situation, El Pato, as he was called, spoke on Trans-Andean television: “It was my wife’s birthday and we went to a restaurant with my children. We finished dinner, got in the car and when we returned to the apartment, everything was open, mixed, and what I was missing was a box with all the medals from my sports career. Among them, the one from 1978, which is the one that hurts me the most,” he said.

“I was attacked in Quilmes, very serious, where I lived when I stopped playing football. They didn’t steal that medal from me, but later, in Belgrano, in Calle Freire, I had another very big attack, I missed a lot of things. I feel immense pain, I feel exposed to the growing insecurity we face,” he added.
Pato Fillol is, for many, the best Argentinian goalkeeper in history. He had his best days at Racing Club and River Plate. However, his performances with his country’s national team remained in the collective memory. He was one of the most important players in the group led by Cesar Luis Menotti .
He actively participated in the national team between 1974 and 1985, year in which it was finally removed by Carlos Salvador Bilardo who chose Nery Pumpido as their goalkeeper during the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
