Two fans “Manchester United ” were arrested after the FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool for shouting offensive chants, reports ESPN.
Manchester United beat Liverpool 4-3 in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday after extra time.
It is notable that supporters ridiculed the Hillsborough Stadium tragedy, which occurred in April 1989 before the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. The stampede resulted in the deaths of 97 Liverpool fans and hundreds more were injured that day in Sheffield.
The arrests follow a statement on Sunday from the English Football Association, which condemned such behavior by supporters.
“These arrests are the result of our proactive zero-tolerance policy aimed at ensuring that genuine supporters and spectators can enjoy the match safely,” said match officer James Collins.
Previously, Manchester City, Chelsea and league side Coventry City reached the semi-finals of the tournament.
