Kombouare becomes the new head coach of Nantes instead of Gourvennec

The 60-year-old specialist returns to the Canary camp after being sacked at the end of last season

Nantes officially announced the appointment Antoine Comboire for the position of head coach. The specialist took his place Josselin Gourvennecwith whom the club parted ways earlier.

Kombouare is 60 years old. His previous place of work was… the same Nantes. Antoine took charge of the Canaries in February 2021, won the 2022 French Cup, but was fired a few rounds before the end of the 2022/23 season – the team was in the Ligue 1 relegation zone at that moment.

Nantes managed to escape under the leadership of Pierre Aristui, but started the new season unsuccessfully. On November 29, Josselin Gourvennec took over the post, but did not last even four months. Under the ex-coach of Guingamp, Bordeaux and Lille, the Canaries won only four matches with ten defeats.

In the 1980s, Kombouare played for Nantes for seven years as a defender and twice became the country’s vice-champion. As a head coach, he led Strasbourg, Valenciennes, PSG (2010 Cup, vice-champion in 2012), Lens, Guingamp, Dijon and Toulouse, as well as Saudi Al-Hilal.

Nantes, having lost their last three matches, is in 16th place in Ligue 1 with 25 points after 26 rounds. In the next round, the Canaries will play away against Nice.
